What are the benefits of different therapy methods (CBT, ACT, systemic therapy, etc.)?
Each therapy method has its own set of benefits depending on your personal challenges:
-
Systemic Therapy: Explores how your interpersonal relationships (such as with family, friends, and partners) and your internal psychological patterns (like thought processes, beliefs, and coping strategies) influence your mental health. Using a resource-oriented and solution-focused approach, it aims to improve relational dynamics and address internal conflicts that affect your well-being. It's effective for individuals, couples, and families, helping to foster healthier relationships and patterns.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Effective for addressing negative thought patterns, helping with anxiety, depression, and stress. It focuses on improving coping skills and problem-solving abilities, making it ideal for clients dealing with unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Encourages acceptance of your emotions and thoughts, promoting psychological flexibility. ACT helps reduce emotional distress, fosters mindfulness, and encourages values-based actions for a more meaningful life.
-
Trauma-Informed Therapy: Focuses on understanding the effects of past trauma on your present life, creating a supportive environment for processing and managing trauma-related symptoms.
-
Person-Centered Counseling: Provides a non-judgmental and empathetic environment for self-exploration, fostering growth and self-acceptance.
-
Resilience-Informed Therapy: Focuses on building and strengthening coping strategies and emotional resilience, especially during times of stress, burnout, or life transitions.
-
Compassion-Focused Therapy: Helps develop self-compassion and emotional regulation, especially for individuals dealing with trauma, low self-esteem, or emotional difficulties. It supports emotional well-being by reducing shame and fostering acceptance.

How long does the therapy process typically last?
The duration of psychotherapy depends on your goals and needs. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy, while others may engage in longer-term support. We will regularly review your progress to ensure our our process aligns with your goals.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, all therapy sessions are strictly confidential, in accordance with the internationally recognized ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) and applicable legal regulations. Confidentiality is a fundamental principle in therapy, with specific exceptions, including:
- If there is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.
- If there is a legal obligation to report, such as suspected child abuse or neglect.
In such exceptional cases, I would inform you of the need to break confidentiality whenever possible. Protecting your privacy remains a core priority in the therapeutic process.
What should I expect during my first session?
The first session is an opportunity to share your concerns, goals, and background. Together, we’ll develop a personalized approach to support your needs and enhance your mental health and well-being.
How do I prepare for my first session?
Before your first session, it can be helpful to think about the concerns you want to address, any past experiences with therapy, and your goals for treatment. We'll use the first session to discuss these, build rapport, and explore how we can work together effectively.
Can I contact you between sessions if I need support?
Yes, you are welcome to contact me between sessions via email if you have any questions or need clarification on what we discussed during therapy session. Please note that I do not offer immediate responses outside of our scheduled sessions, and urgent matters should be directed to appropriate emergency services. If you feel that you need more frequent support, we can discuss the option of scheduling additional sessions.
What should I do if I feel therapy isn't working for me?
If you feel therapy isn't helping, it's important to share this with me so we can adjust the approach or explore other options together. Therapy is a process, and communication is key to ensuring that your needs are met.
Session Formats and Accessibility
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes, I provide secure and confidential online counseling and psychotherapy for expats, giving you the flexibility to attend from the comfort of your home or while traveling. You can find more information on the scheduling here: Process & Fees.
How do online therapy sessions work?
Online therapy sessions are conducted via a secure, GDPR-conform confidential video platform. They offer the same level of professionalism and support as in-person sessions, with the added flexibility of attending from any location.
How do online therapy sessions compare to in-person sessions?
Online therapy and counseling sessions offer the same therapeutic benefits as in-person sessions, with the added convenience of attending from the comfort of your home or any location that works for you. Both formats ensure confidentiality, personalized therapy, and flexibility, and are conducted in compliance with data protection laws (including GDPR).
Online sessions can be especially beneficial for those with busy schedules, mobility issues, or individuals living outside of Munich. Many clients experience the same comfort and progress as they would in person.
Additionally, I hold the Quality Mark for Online Psychological Counseling, awarded by the Association of German Psychologists (Berufsverband Deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen), ensuring high standards of care and professionalism in online counseling.
Please note that online sessions may not be suitable for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms, such as severe depression, psychosis, or other conditions that require immediate medical attention. Online sessions are also not suitable for emergency situations. If you are in crisis or need urgent care, please seek immediate help through the appropriate emergency channels.

No, I cannot provide sick notes or prescribe medication, as I am a psychologist, not a medical doctor. If you require these services, I recommend consulting with your general practitioner or psychiatrist.
Is therapy available in case of an emergency or crisis?
While therapy can be incredibly helpful for long-term emotional support and mental health it is not a substitute for emergency services. If you're in immediate danger or facing a crisis, please contact emergency services or visit the nearest hospital. I can work with you on managing stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges over time, but urgent, crisis intervention should be handled by the appropriate professionals.
Are there any populations or conditions you do not treat?
While I provide counseling and therapy for a wide range of challenges, there are certain conditions (such as psychosis, active substance abuse, or life-threatening mental health crises) that may require more specialized or in-person care.
